
An award-winning former BBC producer appeared in court today accused of possessing a gallon-and-a-half of a drug used in the gay ‘chemsex’ scene.

- He was allegedly found with Class C drug by police while sat in a Volvo
- The drug, gamma-butyrolactone, can raise heart rate to dangerous levels
- He denies possession of a Class C drug with intent to supply and was bailed

Alexander Parkin, 42, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court wearing a blue suit, white shirt and burgundy and blue striped tie to face one count of possession of a Class C drug with intent to supply,
The Oxford graduate, who won nine Sony awards for his work with the BBC, was allegedly sat in the front passenger seat of a Volvo when police found 1.5 gallons of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) on September 28 last year.
The Class C drug, which can raise heart rate and blood pressure to dangerous levels, is commonly used in the gay ‘chemsex scene’.
GBL, which induces feelings of well-being and intensifies sexual arousal, is also used as an alloy cleaner and solvent, but was never intended for human consumption.
Parkin, of Kennington, south London, was bailed on condition of residence to next appear at Inner London Crown Court on April 18.
The court heard he denies the charge.
