Auntie’s over-fed those cats again

348 BBC staff on more than £100k

Rolling in it... Director General Mark Thompson

THE BLOATED BBC is covering up soaring numbers of senior fatcats earning more than £100,000, we can reveal.

The corporation will boast this week that the number of “senior managers” earning six figures has fallen 14 per cent – to 269.

But figures obtained by the News of the World show the true number of Beeb staffers earning the huge sum is actually much higher – at 348. The BBC’s figure is lower because they don’t consider some of the fatcats as “senior managers”.

Our revelation comes after BBC Trust chairman Lord Patten said he would tackle the issue of pay by cutting the number of fatcats and capping salaries.

And the figures fly in the face of earlier promises by the corporation to curb spending. Lord Patten’s plan to link senior staff pay on a scale to the average BBC salary of £39,668 would also mean them getting RISES.

A salary cap on Director General Mark Thompson at 17 TIMES the average would give him £674,356-a-year… higher than his current £668,300.

While there are still more than 20 BBC presenters, actors and journalists earning in excess of £500,000-a-year. TaxPayers’ Alliance campaign director Emma Boon said: “The BBC is constantly pleading poverty and complaining that the licence fee is stretched, but the fatcats at the top are still getting generous deals.”

A BBC spokesman said: “The figures you have are for all staff across the board who earn £100,000, whereas the figure in the annual report will be ‘senior managers’ who earn over £100,000.
