A BBC official has warned politicians to back off the broadcaster, insisting that the public should decide its future (But the BBC refuse to give you the choice)
Rona Fairhead, the head of the BBC Trust, said the corporation’s destiny must be decided by evidence (BBC made up evidence) and “not by prejudice and not by vested interest” but she doesn’t want a voluntary subscription which would give the public a genuine say!
She also hit out at the “growing tendency” among MPs to interfere in BBC affairs by asking bosses about “detailed editorial decisions” which interfered with the BBC’s left-wing bias.
The broadcaster has faced widespread criticism from the Government due to the BBC’s left-wing bias during the General Election where they were expecting Labour to win.
John Whittingdale, Culture Secretary, has launched a “root and branch” review of the BBC’s scale and funding.
And this weekend Justice Secretary Michael Gove called for non-payment of the controversial license fee to be decriminalised.
Officials reportedly fear the move would see more people dodge the £145 fee – and badly hit the BBC’s income, where they state ‘dodge’ they actually meant those who don’t need one.
But Ms Fairhead slammed politicians’ “incessant” discussions over the BBC licence fee, adding that the power balance should instead lie in the hands of the public..
She admitted that the BBC is facing “arguably the greatest external challenges in its lifetime”.
She said: “We need to be clear about the BBC’s future priorities and exactly what changes need to be made.
“But this should all happen through a proper debate in which the public’s voice is heard loud and clear.
“The BBC’s future is simply too important to be settled behind closed doors.” – Rona forgot to add the BBC has been running itself like this for over 80yrs
