Douglas Carswell warns mass boycott of licence fee will KILL OFF ‘biased BBC

DOUGLAS CARSWELL predicts the “biased” BBC will soon cease to exist because Britons will stage a mass boycott of the licence fee.

Douglas Carswell said the BBC would be ended by a mass licence boycott

Mr Carswell said: “I grew up watching the BBC. Some of the best shows I’ve seen and some of the most amazing programmes I’ve ever watched were produced by the BBC.

“It hurts me to say this but I look at some of the output from the BBC now and I despair.

“What I think people resent is when it comes to broadcasters interpreting events and pretending some how they’re being objective – they’re simply not being objective!”

The BBC came under fire a number of times for its recent coverage of the landmark referendum.

An investigation by Newswatch found the corporation showed bias towards the Remain side after analysing 40 editions of Newsnight.

The flagship show was found to be more pro-EU after 40 episodes were assessed between January 16 and March 12 2016.

The MP for Clacton lambasted the broadcaster, funded by the licence fee payer, for it’s seeming failure to air programmes that spoke of the positives about leaving the EU.

“I’m trying to think of a single programme, produced by the BBC since June 23rd that has been favourable to Brexit – I can’t think of a single one,” he thundered.

The BBC rakes in £3.7 billion in income every year from the licence fee.

Over 25.5 million TV Licences are currently in force across the country, according to the latest figures.

As pressure mounts on the Government to ensure those paying the £145.50 annual sum are getting value for money, Mr Carswell inferred it would be the people who spark the death knell of the BBC.

“I’m going to put myself on the line here,” he continued.

“I think what is going to happen is it’s not going to be Parliament that decides, I think we’re going to start seeing – and I’m not saying I support it – we’re going to see an organised boycott of the licence fee.

“We’re already starting to see people not paying because they think they don’t use their services,” he finished.

Recent figures uncovered showed the BBC had accepted millions of Euros in funding from the EU.

Bosses admitted pocketing more than £2. 3million from the bloc in three years.

The huge sum came from the EU Framework Programmes for Research and Development projects.

Although the cooperation admitted the cash may be a “factor in determining the location of productions” – it was not used for programme’s content or commissioning decision.

A BBC PR Spokesperson said: “Douglas Carswell opposing the licence fee is nothing new, but the public supports (The BBC presuming to speak for the public again, a left-wing trait) the licence fee as the best way of funding the BBC and there was overwhelming backing for a strong and independent BBC during the Government’s recent consultation.

“It was widely acknowledged that the BBC covered the referendum campaign impartially and we have continued to do so since.”
